“Artist College – Call for Applications”

Graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris and the École des Arts Décoratifs, Chloé Vanderstraeten collects scientific and technical iconographies from medieval medical treatises to 1960s utopian architecture. She draws from this repertoire a graphic vocabulary, repurposing it from its original functions to shape a poetry of the living body through drawing, sculpture, and publishing. Using techniques of patterning, weaving, and paving, she unfolds bodily envelopes in paper porous and sensitive material into space, creating scale games that awaken the intertwined imaginaries of body and architecture. Her sculptures reveal the interweaving of organic morphologies and techniques, questioning the contemporary legacy of modern scientific imaginaries. She has participated in several group exhibitions, notably at the CAC Brétigny and Mains d’Oeuvres in Saint-Ouen with the curatorial collective Champs Magnétiques, and at Souffler de son souffle at the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh in Arles in 2022.
